In the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), I am Mistress Magdalena la Sanguigni. The SCA is a historical reenactment group, which is dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th Century Europe. I live in the Barony of Caer Mear in the Kingdom of Atlantia.

My first actual experience in the SCA was in 1988 when I joined M.E.A.D (Medieval Education And Demonstration) while I was a student at VCU.  Currently I am a member of the Household, Chez Robear, and I am apprenticed to Master Robear de Bardolf as a cook in his household.

My Interests:

Culinary Arts– I research period recipes and cooking methods. I translate and redact period recipes. I study period cooking methods and practice them when I get the chance. I have cooked feasts at the Baronial and Kingdom level.

Costume Construction– I research and create period clothing of all kinds.  My main focus is Italian clothing from all periods, and 16th century Venetian clothing in particular.

Historical Sexuality– I research and teach classes on various subjects related to sex, I’ve been teaching at Pennsic for 6 years and began teaching in the Kingdom of Atlantia in 2015.  So far I have taught classes on the history of prostitution, sex in western culture, and 16th c. erotica.
